Picture Study - it's so easy!
"We cannot measure the influence that one or another artist has upon the child's sense of beauty, upon his power of seeing, as in a picture, the common sight of life; he is enriched more than we know in having really looked at even a single pictue." -Charlotte Mason
Exposing your children to great artists and their artwork can do so much to enrich your child's education, and it is so easy! Each semester or so your child should study art done by one artist. I usually buy calendars at the end of the season and use the art from the calendar. I have also purchased art portfolios from simplycharlottemason.com and downloaded art work (free) from http://amblesideonline.org/ArtSch.shtml. Art books are generally inexpensive, and you can find wonderful treasures at used bookstores.
Most importantly, get started. It doesn't have to be hard or complicated, and your children will be so blessed because you have given them a feast of beauty! Here are some artists to get you going:
Edgar Degas
Mary Cassatt
Winslow Homer
Michelangelo Buonarroti
Leonardo Da Vinci
Vincent Van Gogh
Claude Monet
John Singleton Copley
