Not loving math?
When you say, "It's time for math," do your children run screaming? Mine have. It makes me so sad because I love math, puzzles, games, figuring out the answer, sorting, analogies, codes, patterns, and more. I want to help you help your children to love it too. Here is the first in a short series on ideas for helping your wee ones love math (or at least encouraging them not to flee in terror).
What is math for the early years?
counting sorting
measuring seeing relationships
shapes more/less
even/odd same/different
add to take away
Wait to introduce the math symbols (1, 2, 3, +, -, =)
Teach them after you have used the words several times. Children can get very confused when we move from the concrete to the abstract before they are ready.
